Nato a Dublino, Irlanda, nel 1970, Glen Hansard è il cantante, il chitarrista e uno dei membri fondatori del gruppo rock irlandese The Frames. Dopo aver lasciato la scuola a 13 anni, ha cominciato a suonare per le strade di Dublino e si è progressivamente affermato come uno dei più grandi e più promettenti talenti della musica irlandese. Si è fatto conoscere dal grande pubblico interpretando la parte di Outspan Foster nel film di Alan Parker, THE COMMITMENTS. Prima di girare il film, aveva firmato un accordo discografico con la Island Records e fondato successivamente il gruppo The Frames nel 1990. Da allora, il gruppo, che comprendeva nella sua prima formazione John Carney come bassista, ha registrato diversi dischi e fatto molti tour. Il sesto disco The Cost, uscito nel settembre 2006 ha ricevuto unanime consenso. Dopo un tour che li ha portati in tutta Europa, The Frames sono giunti negli Stati Uniti all’inizio del 2007. Nell’aprile 2006, Hansard ha pubblicato il suo primo album da solo, The Swell Season, in collaborazione con la cantante polistrumentista cecoslovacca Markéta Irglová.
